Living as Name Reader

I love this name reading concept so much I decided to simply become “Name Reader” – all of my comments, all of my advice will all come from “Name Reader.” Now in real life? I am not Name Reader, I am someone else… but I shall let the mystery remain. I mean, why not? If you read the “Name Reader Book” you’ll come to realize that I can only be one of two possibilities.

Anyway, this philosophy that we are influenced by our names is not a bad philosophy to use. In fact, I use it often to help shape my days and discover why I have such a difficult time with certain things. Inevitably, I look at my name and see the various connections at play.

And although Name Reading is all done for entertainment purposes, and it truly is entertaining, it’s a wonderful way to learn about yourself.  Each letter comes with a series of influences. So even though you may have two people with the same name, they are often times quite different.

But each person will feel the pull of certain influences.  How they respond to them will determine the person that is influenced.

I’ll be doing both celebrity Name Readings and Reader Name Readings to show just how true this is.  If you are interested in having a brief Name Reading done by yours truly, then shoot me an email: info@namereader.ca

Otherwise, enjoy the blog!

Good Old Frank

So I did a name reader gig the other day.  A casino party. Those are pretty crazy if I do say so myself. This was just at some dude’s house, and he had like… tables for black jack dealers, poker dealers (texas hold ’em) and a roulette thinger.  The boss guy gave everyone tokens to start with and if you ran out you could keep going if you were ok using your own money.

It’s not always done like that though. Sometimes it is done for charity or sometimes it’s just people playing poker just for fun.

Anyway… so I show up with my books and my cards. I get a dealer’s table which is just perfect. I put out my little sign and wait for people to come and get their name read.

I get people right away, that’s always a good sign. I can smell the alcohol, so it means people are going to be more receptive, another good sign.  I read about ten people and each of them all started off the same way. Grinning. They grin at me as I start… their first letter: “oh yeah! that’s totally me!” and so on, and by the time I reach their last letter their grin has turned into a look of mildly freaked out amazement.  Because the funny thing about Name Reading is that it is incredibly accurate.  We do it merely for entertainment purposes of course, but we’re kind of like a magician. Spiriting out of people all that affects them and the influences that sway them.

One woman was so thoroughly impressed she brought her husband (ok dragged her husband) to my table. “This is my husband Frank! You HAVE to do him! Frank let the reader read your name… it’s amazing.”

Frank already looked thoroughly unimpressed. “I think this is bullshit.” he said to me.

I laughed. “You do huh?”

“I do.” he admitted. “There is nothing about me that you could possibly know. No doubt it’s just obscured madness like a horoscope.”

“Oh is that what you think?” I said, pulling a Name Reader book out of my little book box.

“That’s right, I need to know the facts before you can even attempt pull the wool over my eyes. I need to see some results.” he crossed his arms and gave me his shrewdest look.

I was nodding the whole time he was speaking. “Mhmm, mhmm. Frank… ” I said, “that is your name, correct?”

“Yeah my name’s Frank.” he replied.

“OK Frank, I want you to find the letter F in this book. Each letter sympathizes with 3 different influences. I want you to read to me the last influence for the letter F.”

Frank flipped through the book, “The last one?” he asked for re-verification.

“Yes please.” I replied.

“Influenced by………. results.” and the way he said the last word, I knew he was truly shocked.

“Aren’t you? You said so yourself.” I said smiling.

“Well, yeah, I mean… but… it’s just, how could… ” he shook his head. “That’s amazing! What else is there?”

So Frank and I sat down and talked all about who Frank was in relation to his name. As the reading went on he became more and more silent. Most people say virtually nothing while I read a name. They don’t want to accidentally tip their hand. Frank of course, was no different. By the end of it all he said exactly what everyone else says “That was really interesting. Thank you.” He had definitely been humbled.

Frank’s wife purchased a book. A few others did as well. Most people seem to enjoy the novelty of simply having themselves read. But I do occasionally meet a person that becomes inspired to be a Reader. They see the adventure in it and the possibilities. Imagine being able to show someone their strengths simply by knowing their name? It’s truly a wonderful calling.

The rest of the evening went relatively uneventful. Frank had accumulated a huge crowd after his stalwartly performance. When he was done I had a line up around the room of people wanting to get their names read.

Some people will actually break down and cry because they have never felt so understood.

Name Reading.  It’s the best job in the world 🙂

Twitter

Part of my job with the Name Reader crew is to not only read names and make people see the good they have inside of themselves, but it is also to create a social media presence. (no pressure huh?) So I have been dabbling in such things. I created a twitter account, as you can see.  It’s been doing all right. But I must admit I do not understand twitter.  Perhaps if I have a look at the word and examine it as I would a name, I may find some understanding.

There are 3 T’s in this word.  Which explains a lot. T is all about personal gain.  Not a bad thing, we all need a little T in our lives lest we become doormats. T is about creating balance and giving in the process, provided it gives a little something back in return.

Here’s a question for you, what the heck does twitter get out of allowing millions of people to suck up their bandwith doing brief tweets.

Let’s have a looky loo at wikipedia, shall we:

In July 2009, some of Twitter’s revenue and user growth documents were published on TechCrunch after being illegally obtained by Hacker Croll. The documents projected 2009 revenues of US$400,000 in the third quarter and US$4 million in the fourth quarter along with 25 million users by the end of the year. The projections for the end of 2013 were US$1.54 billion in revenue, US$111 million in net earnings, and 1 billion users.[3] No information about how Twitter planned to achieve those numbers was published. In response, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone published a blog post suggesting the possibility of legal action against the hacker.[114]

On April 13, 2010, Twitter announced plans to offer paid advertising for companies that would be able to purchase “promoted tweets” to appear in selective search results on the Twitter website, similar to Google Adwords’ advertising model. As of April 13, Twitter announced it had already signed up a number of companies wishing to advertise including Sony Pictures, Red Bull, Best Buy, and Starbucks.[115][116]

To continue their advertising campaign, Twitter announced on March 20, 2012, that it would be bringing its promoted tweets to mobile devices. Twitter generated US$139.5 million in advertising sales during 2011 and expects this number to grow 86.3% to US$259.9 million in 2012.[117]

The company generated US$45 million in annual revenue in 2010, after beginning sales midway through that year. The company operated at a loss through most of 2010. Revenues were forecast for US$100 million to US$110 million in 2011.[109] Users’ photos can generate royalty-free revenue for Twitter, with an agreement with WENN being announced in May 2011.[118] In June 2011, Twitter announced that it would offer small businesses a self serve advertising system.[119]

Advertising, I should have realized.  That’s pretty hardcore when you think about it.  It’s nice to see the corporation paying for something that benefits others. And to my mind it is less advertising and more “branding”.

Now that W in twitter, let’s have a look at that. Influenced to attain greater awareness. Well twitter has successfully done that, no doubt about it.  I don’t know too many people that were born 1965 + that doesn’t know what twitter is. It has certainly attained a greater awareness if not for itself than from others.

There is an I in there, which in part is about exploring the unknown. Twitter achieves that in spades.  There is as much madness on twitter as there is likely to be anywhere on the internet. To explore the unknown is quite achievable there. In fact the unknown world is as likely to find you. I have blocked my fair share of pornographic offers that seem to delve into a concept I am not quite ready to deal with.

Now the E. The main influence I see is the ability to be agreeable. Twitter certainly is that. It will take on anyone with a pulse and let them post whatever it is they want out to the world.  I certainly wouldn’t open my blog to that kind of treatment.

Finally, that R.  R is all about repetition. Keeping things flowing so that they will constantly cycle without faltering. Isn’t twitter that way? You must be on top of it regularly to make sure your followers do not become bored, and drop you. You must be willing to give your followers information they wish to retweet or favourite. I must say, it is the R that most people that have twitter accounts fall prey to. Repeatedly checking their accounts hour by hour, moment by moment. It truly is far too entertaining!  Not only is it entertaining, it is also brief. 140 characters is all you have to make your pitch, so you better make it good.

So that’s Twitter in a nutshell. Its name sums it up rather well.  And now, to put that information to use as I try to gather a following. It may seem like a dream, but I hope to create a group of people that understand just how fantastic they are, and if they are ever in doubt they can look at their name a know otherwise.

Taylor Swift

Here is a lady that is chronically in the news and no doubt it’s because she lives her name to the fullest. You see, Taylor understands that in order to make headway in this life you need to give a little something to the people, but never do it without getting a little something in return. She understands how to be selfish, but not actually selfish.  She also understands all about balance. Whether it’s from writing a song, doing a concert or meeting a fan, she understands that in order for her to achieve, she must be available.  Not easy to do in a world full of nasties.

She handles her hecklers like a pro, with a strong and firm response.  She waves off the destructive comments as though they don’t matter. And they most certainly don’t.  The A in her name is taking her to extraordinary heights. The drive to excel and achieve is strong within this one, mhmm yes.

And she’s constantly faced with decisions, decisions, decisions.  But she makes them all with the same definition she uses when dealing with her hecklers. Strong and firm. The girl knows what she wants.

And of course she’s a huge romantic. The L tugs at her which is why she dates and dates and dates. And nothing wrong with that, the T in her name is looking for something and she can’t just settle on any old thing. She needs to taste, try and touch everything. She’s always been like that and she always will.

But she is easily knocked down by natural things. For example the beauty of a rolling country side or a deep blue lake can bring tears to the girl’s eyes. The changing of the seasons can often leave her with a heart ache, as she watches time pass. For she knows when time passes, things change.  And if there is one thing Taylor understands is that everything changes, for better or for worse. There is no changing the ever constant presence of change.

And in the end she wraps all of who she is up in her music. Rehashing and remembering the past, digging into her soul to produce her art.  People complain that she writes about her break ups. Meh… so what? What do you do when you break up with someone? Do you let them go or do you pour your heart out? I know that’s what I do. I don’t have the gift to write music, but I do dwell on break ups as anyone would.  It’s her very human nature that appeals to so many. Especially the young girls of the world. Who doesn’t need a person in their corner singing at the top of their lungs all of the things they are feeling?

So, that’s Taylor 🙂

Being a Name Reader

Being a name reader is a lot like being a doctor, or psychiatrist or lawyer.  As soon as someone realizes what you do it’s all “I wanna know what my name means!” It’s a curious thing.  At first I loved it, you know? I was all tough and reading peoples names and they were all “Whooooa awesome! that’s exactly like me!” But now? Sometimes I’d like to talk about ANYTHING else. The weather, what’s new at the movies, heck I’d even talk about politics. Especially American politics, what a circus that is.

But anyway, the blessing of being a name reader is you know people before you really get to know them and the curse is you have to read every person’s name you have ever met EVER.  Makes it a little harder to make money doing it that way, but at the same time it’s great promotion.

A Name Reader is always the hit of the party. And yes, there are a few of us. Name Reading is as new vocation just waiting to burst forth and make people’s lives better.  The exciting thing about what I do is how good I get to make people feel about themselves through their names.  Most people don’t realize all of their strengths and often focus mainly on their flaws. Name Reading is all about reminding people that even their flaws can offer strength.

Ahhh, I guess when I step back I do have a pretty good job. And if giving it away can place a smile on a world weary face, I suppose I am better for that too.

Thanks for reading this very brief post. Remember, all of your strengths, your flaws, your name – they are all sacred.

Character Inspiration

Some of my favourite people in the world are writers. Their love for the written language and their ability to express themselves through first or third person characterization never fails to amaze me.

I also believe that the Name Reading concept is something that authors around the world could benefit from. I would imagine no one understands how things can influence a story quite like an author can.  Especially when it comes to crafting a character from scratch. The Name Reader book offers a benefit to writers and helps them create realistic traits within their characters through discovering the influences in their names.

There is also the option of sending along a character name to me to be blogged about here on the site. Give your readers something to chew on and think about; regarding the characters you have crafted.

You know where to find me if such a thing interests you.

And not being much of a writer myself, I think I shall simply end the blog here and leave the writing to the professionals.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Here’s a man that exudes every aspect of the influences in his name.  The difference between reading a celebrity versus reading a complete stranger is I obviously have a lot more to go on when dealing with a celebrity. Not that I know tons and tons about Leonardo here, but finding stuff out won’t really be that difficult.

But I am not interested in how many 23 year old models he’s dated, or what movies he’d done, or whether or not he was kicked out of Romper Room. Those things are paltry in comparison to what I can find out through his name. I can find out the “why” to all of those previous statements. It seems he is primarily addressed as “Leo” and it does rather seem to some him up.

The L: Influenced to love and be loving, influenced to see the lower aspect of things, influenced by human conditions. These are the embodiments of the L influences.  Leo’s love for all things environmental is certainly one way the L presents itself in him. He seems very dedicated to making the non-animate world a better place. He is also probably influenced to take care of close personal friends and family members as well. He certainly loves his super models, but then again, who wouldn’t if you were a 38 year old man creeping slowly out of his prime? It’s that L again, as he tries to face the reality of age. He is certainly looking to retain his youth. I suppose we all do, but Leo seems to take it to a different level. I would imagine the young innocence of a fragile female is far more compelling to him than dealing with a female that is of his own age. One that has been around the block and would probably poke him non-stop to settle down.  So long as he is happy with the string of females he has had, there really is no need to judge him. Perhaps it does keep him young?

Now the E, this is where Leo can start to become a spectacular human. The E loves all things feminine, engages in refined thinking and often makes one very agreeable. Leo has obviously learned when to say yes to things, or he would not be where he is today. We have already regarded how he feels about femininity it shows up in his dating habits. So that leaves us with refined thinking. And this is where I believe the world doesn’t understand Leo. You see, to him, all of his decisions make perfect sense. He strives to be logical, without being boring. He undertands that there is far more to this life than simply plodding through a 9-5 job to buy a house with a white picket fence. He knows that there is a deeper meaning hidden behind all of this reality, what it is? He has no idea. I am sure he has spent many hours pondering the futility of life as often as he’s pondered the wonder. But one thing no one can deny is he is trying to make the most out of his time here, so in that case he is using E’s influence as it was intended.

Next and last, is the O: Influenced by nature, weather and seasons, empowered by the drive to provide and maintain, he is heavily affected by cycles of change. There is no doubt in my mind that he spends time hiking and enjoying the changing of the seasons when he can. Although he seems to spend most of his time in LA, he would have a great appreciation for autumn and winter for he does not get an opportunity to be a part of those seasons often. He may not realize it, but he would probably be happier in a country where the climate cycled through all four seasons.  The desire to provide and maintain shows up in both his ambition to create a greener earth and his dating habits. He seems to be eager to be in control of taking care of things. No doubt because he is very good at it.  I don’t believe he has ever directed a movie or documentary, (although I do believe he has produced a few) I feel confident that is one of his next goals. He is probably just biding his time until he feels he has reached a point where directing is the next logical step in his progression.  As he is influenced by cycles of change, he himself is always creating new environments for himself. Unable to sit still through any one particular committment. He no doubt has projects lined up for the next ten years and even then, he feels he is not doing enough. Leo requires constant change to feel as though he is progressing.

No matter who you are, your name will influence you. Being aware that it does, and how it can, will help you immensely in growing into the person you want to be.

A Rose by Any Other Name…

… would indeed smell as sweet. But, what if you were named something other than you are? Would you still be the person you are today? I don’t think you would. In fact my whole theory is based on that assumption.

There are influences in everyone’s life, and most people can admit that their name has influenced them to some degree.  Especially when their mother yells it when they are in trouble, or that disapproving tone from their father or that irritating whine from a sibling.  How a name is said to will often influence who you become. I have heard a lot of people say “When my mother says my full name, I know I am in trouble.”

So what does it mean to be influenced by the sound of your name? It means only that if you are aware that you are influenced you can pay attention and shape how it shapes you, rather than be programmed in ignorance.  It’s important to understand that pretty much everything in your life is going to influence you one way or the other. Being aware is just better, in my opinion anyway.

I am the kind of person that recoils at the thought of being programmed. It offends the very nature of my being. I choose who I am, dammit, no one chooses for me.

All right, I say that but I know for a fact I have been programmed by others. It’s not always a bad thing, I suppose, but I still prefer to have some kind of say in who I become.

It’s why I decided to become involved in Name Reading, I am not the only Name Reader in the world, we have quite a few Readers. All of us Readers are also seekers, looking for more than what life has to offer. There is something satisfying about hearing a name, running the letters through your head, and becoming aware of who they are. It is empowering to say the least.

If you tell me your name, I may not know everything about you, but I can figure out how the influences at play in each letter have helped shape who you are. Name Reading coupled with something called “Kinetics” (understanding body language) can offer you an amazing opportunity to do due diligence on people you can’t really get close to.

My life as a Name Reader has brought to me inspiration, insight and all kinds of wonderful things. I am excited to share it with all of you.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

I chose this dude as my first celebrity read, cuz he really is all over the place right now. Cheating on his wife for heaven’s sakes! And then bragging about it in a new book? All right, I haven’t read the book, just articles on the book and it SEEMS like he’s bragging.  He’s allowing the R in his name to influence him to be like this. One of the things R is all about is rehashing and repeating. Such an influence comes out in many ways. In Arnold’s case he seems to be beating a dead horse by continually bringing up his affair, oh excuse me, affairs, perhaps trying to normalize it?

He is likely the kind of person that can’t let something go. He has to just keep chewing on it, or picking at it.  Taking responsibility may not come easy to him, and when he does, I am sure he has lots of reasons to assure everyone why he isn’t “that” bad. And I am sure he isn’t. He certainly isn’t the first person to cheat on their spouse. However, he was a prominent political figure which makes his slip up all the more juicy.

The other letter that clouds his judgment is the L. The L can be many wonderful things, it can also be a temptation to accomodate the lower aspects of your personality. L is primarily about love, but how people go about showing that love is how L’s influence can really shape a person.

Arnold is probably the kind of person, especially now in his situation, that will tend to look at “how” something is said, rather than what is actually said. He may snipe that someone was rude and therefore encourage himself to not listen. If Maria were to shout at him, even if her shouting was full of truths, he would tune it all out simply because he doesn’t like the delivery.

Add to that the pressure D can place on a person and this man is probably ready to blow. He’s like a dog trapped in a corner and you may start to see him biting the hand that once fed him. He’s not going to be able to think clearly with all of this hub bub around him.  If he can grab a hold of the A in his name, he may be able to set himself anew. But that really depends on whether he can let all of this go, and forgive himself his own trasngressions.
